Mumbai HC to hear Sachin Vaze's plea

The hearing on a petition filed by the assistant police inspector [API], Sachin Vaze, in connection with Ghatkopar bomb blast accused Syed Khawaja Yunus will now be heard in the Mumbai High 'Court. The case has "been transferred from the Aurangabad bench of Mumbai High Court.

There will be joint hearing on this petition and another pending petition (no. 301 a/05). As reported earlier, two persons were killed and several others injured in the Ghatkopar blast that took place in Mumbai en December 2, 2002. The police had arrested Mohd. Mateen Abdul Basit, Shaikh Muzammil, Zaheer Ahmed (all from Aurangabad) and Syed Khwaja Yunus Syed Khwaja Ayyub (Parbhani). Vaze, in his complaint at Parner police station, had stated that Khwaja Yunus escaped from the police jeep near Jategaon while he was being, taken to Aurangabad for investigations. However, Yunus' father Syed Khwaja Ayub filed a habeas corpus in the Mumbai High Court stating that the police killed his son. Later, on the orders of the court, Parner police had registered a case against Vaze, constables Sunil Desai, Rajendra Tiwari, Rajaram; Nikam and an unidentified woman. The accused were booked: under various offences. Subsequently, the investigating officer and deputy superintendent of police (Pune-CID), K L Borade arrested Waze and brought him to Parner.

Vaze, in his appeal filed before the local bench of Mumbai High Court urged the court to cancel the charges filed against him, grant Rs 5 lakh against defamation and restore his job. The additional chief secretary (home), chief secretary, R M Premkumar, additional IGP (CID), J Y Umranikar, special IGP, P P Sharma, special superintendent of police (Pune), S K Padvi, B R Dangade, legal advisor to CID, Vasant Pokshe, DySP (Pune-CID), K L Borade, special public prosecutor (CID), R B Mokashi, Parner PI, B M Sinnarkar and retired IGP, S M Shringari were made party by the Vaze.
