Mumbai: In what seems to be a gang war among the officers of Mumbai Police, Daya Nayak has alleged that he was a victim of internal rivalry by seniors and IPS officials.
Giving 'exclusive' interviews to all major private TV channels, Daya alleged that top cops of the Mumbai police were after him and were out to finish him as they were jealous of his rise in the profession.
Daya has named his senior and mentor, Pradeep Sharma, as the chief conspirator against him.
There are rumours in the police department and the encounter specialists' fraternity that the officers may work against each other and spill the beans. The dark secret of the dreaded encounters and the truth about them is expected to be out soon. Daya on Sunday blamed the media for maligning him and said that a section of the media was writing against him on the instructions of his detractors. He specifically named a publication and added that this particular publication had been writing about him on a continuous basis. There are reports that Daya and the other encounter cops of the coterie carried three mobile phones and one was exclusively for the media men and they provided inputs to cases of which they were not even a part.
Additional SP of the ACB Vikas Gaikwad on Saturday had told news persons that there were many journalists who were in close contact with Daya and he had been gathering a lot of information from them with regards to Daya.
According to confirmed sources from the ACB, many high-profile crime journalists from national dailies and the electronic media who are alleged to be close to Nayak may be questioned once Daya is in the custody of the ACB which may happen on Monday if everything is in order.
Daya has even questioned the integrity of former commissioner of police M N Singh and has alleged that Singh was vindictive by nature and that the Mumbai police deteriorated during his tenure. Daya's lawyer Shyam Marwadi had written to the ACB that he would surrender on Monday.
