Mumbai: In another addition to increasing number of rapes in Mumbai that may get the city a reputation of rape city, an 8-year-old mentally retarded girl was raped at Kandivli on Friday. The child is deaf and mute. She is a resident of Saijyot Society, Dahanukarwadi.
The child had come out of her home alone to look for her mother. Her mother had gone to buy kerosene from a neighbourhood store. She was dragged into the bushes near an under-construction site on Mahatma Gandhi Road and raped. The girl sustained injuries on her body and private parts. She was spotted by a passer-by and taken to Bhagwati hospital. A case of rape against an unidentified person has been registered.
