Mumbai: The Government of Maharashtra has asked the Reserve Bank of India permission to shift their account to another bank because of the strike of State Bank of India employees. The government has not been able to issue cheques even to the employees!

In the meanwhile, the tough stand of the SBI employees got a further support at Delhi . The Delhi unit of the United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU) has decided to hold a protest march to Parliament on 10th April to extend support to State Bank of India employees' strike which entered its sixth day today.

The strike not only affected normal banking operations at over 9,000 branches across the country, but also had a bad impact on the financial transaction of several corporates and account holders, particularly pensioners.

Earlier on Thursday, the striking SBI employees said that they were willing to climb down on their demand for higher pension, but would not heed Finance Minister P Chidambaram's appeal to resume duty till their demand was met.

The All India SBI Staff Federation Vice President V K Gupta had said: "We have not given anything in writing to the management but have offered to restrict our demand for 50 percent of last drawn salary as pension up to the General Manager level."

There are not more than 100 officers, including Chairman, above the rank of general manager.

Putting a ceiling on that level means the upper limit of pension would be around Rs 16,000 per month against the present Rs 4,250.

The management is, however, willing to offer pension with a ceiling of Rs 9,500, which the unions said is lower than 50 percent of the basic salary of senior clerk.
