Impossible! Peace Between Gandhis and Bachchans

Mumbai: Efforts are being made to bridge the gap between the two most famous families in the country; Gandhis and Bachchans, according to a TV channel.

Amitabh Bachchan is said to have prevailed upon his wife to stay off politics for the time being. The Samajwadi Party was keen to field her for the Rajya Sabha again but Amitabh is believed to have politely declined the offer. This happened after the recent fiasco that resulted in Jaya Bachchan losing her Rajya Sabha membership, followed by the drama of Sonia Gandhi’s resignation as an MP.

There were rumours that Jaya Bachchan will contest elections opposite Sonia Gandhi but she denied that. In stead, Samajwadi Party offered her a safe seat.

Ajitabh Bachchan, younger brother, is said to be behind the move to broker peace between the two warring families. It may be recalled that the two brothers split long back and were not even on talking terms for years. While the onus of this is said to lie with Ramola, the estranged wife of Ajitabh, the cold war continued.

Ajitabh even threatened to write a book on his elder brother, an idea he seems to have shelved. His name figured in the drama behind the kundali matching of Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai too. Names of Namrata Bachchan, the painter daughter of Ajitabh and Abhishek too are being touted as being behind this move.

Sonia is said to be sympathetic to Bachchans seeing Amitabh’s health and family problems. There are rumours that daughter Shweta’s marriage to Nikhil Nanda is in trouble. But there is no official confirmation of this aspect.

Parinda considers the story highly improbable. Mulayam Singh, Amar Singh, Subrato Roy and Anil Ambani – very close to Amitabh – and loathed by Sonia Gandhi, will not allow this to happen. Nor will the congressmen against Amitabh, allow peace to prevail.
