Mumbai: Sunil More, the 35-year-old constable arrested for raping a college girl in a police chowky on Marine Drive, was given 12 years’ rigorous imprisonment by a sessions court judge. The trial that lasted a year despite being in a fast track court, has left both the sides unsatisfied. The accused, More shouted, "If you are sending me to jail for 12 years even though I am innocent, it is better that you hang me to death. I do not want to live in this biased society."
The social activists feel that 12 years sentence is not enough for the heinous crime of the rape of a minor college going girl that too in police chowkey. He should have been sentenced to life.
The public prosecutor Ujwal, too considered the sentence insufficient, and proposes to go in appeal for getting a more stern punishment. More too is allowed to appeal against the appeal.
