Mumbai: Now, documentary enthusiasts in India can watch some of the best documentaries from across South Asia and not on multiplexes but at historic settings! The 200-year-old Durbar hall at Mumbai's Asiatic Society will host the two-day Festival of Travelling Film South Asia 2006 from April 21-23. The festival will showcase 15 outstanding documentaries made by Indians, Pakistanis, Nepalese, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans and South Africans.
"This 15 film package is for people who love cinema and also those who want to see the issues that concern Asia, particularly South Asia," said the event organiser, Ramesh Pimple of Peoples Media Initiative.
Highlights of the festival will be Sunset Bollywood, a film about failed Bollywood dreams, which has always been a favourite topic for the documentary filmmakers. Another ones are Rakesh Sharma’s Final Solution and Continuous Journey, a film on the 1914 Komagatu Maru incident where a shipload of Indian migrants was turned away by Canada.
The festival will travel to 50 cities across South Asia through 2006, providing a platform for viewers and filmmakers to interact and build bridges.
