Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has granted bail to suspended police sub-inspector Daya Nayak.

Nayak, who is more popular as Mumbai Police's encounter specialist, was granted bail by
Justice VM Kanade on a surety of Rs 25,000 as the anti-corruption bureau failed to file a chargesheet in the disproportionate assets case against him within the stipulated 60 days of arrest.

Nayak has been asked by the court to report to the investigating officers as and when required.

Daya Nayak was booked on Saturday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on the charge of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The offence was registered at the end of an ACB inquiry against Nayak spanning over nearly two years.

Nayak shot into fame for killing more than 50 persons of underworld gang in separate encounters during his posting in Mumbai Crime Branch. He was shunted out of Crime Branch last year following the allegation of disproportionate wealth.
