Mukesh Ambani's SEZ put on hold

The Board of Approvals today gave the green signal to 17 special economic ones including those of Vedanta and DLF. However a decision on the Navi Mumbai one promoted by Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani and his associate Anand Jain has been postponed for now.

A total of 23 cases were considered for final clearance after they had already received in-principal approval. The SEZ projects which have  been approved include those of Vedanta Alumina, DLF, Suzlon Energy and Unitech. However, the Navi Mumbai SEZ wasn't able to get clearance as the Revenue Department wanted more details on measures proposed by the promoters to prevent revenue leakages, official sources said.

Revenue department officials may also visit the site of the SEZ and the proposal will in all likelihood, be taken up at the next meeting of the board on May 31, sources said. In the next meeting, 40 proposals are expected to be taken up for possible approval. Over 350 SEZ proposals are pending before the board.
