It is as if Smita Patil has returned in a more complete form. More complete since, like Smita once confided in me, she wanted to be a writer too. Tara Deshpande is a writer-poet too. It is not easy being a VJ, a model, acting on stage, becoming a film star and retaining (and nurturing) a creative streak of writing.Tara has done all that and she is only twenty five! |

As a VJ she towered over the other desi girls on MTV in the company of Rahul Khanna, and among the products she modeled for are Pantene Pro-V shampoo, Raymond and Wipro Shikakai. What interested one was her debut in an experimental film `Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin` and followed it with films like `Bada Din` and `Bombay Boys`.
Her theatre performance includes `Begum Sumroo`, a high profile play of the big daddy of advertising and films Alyque Padadmsee. Her travelogue in poetry ? a first in Indian publishing ? named `Fifty And Done` and her book of short stories has been well received in media. Media, always short of beautiful and intelligent females, has already lapped her up. Tara's PR too is equally top. Even the bitchy females of the `Old Lady of Boribunder`, who resent the easy glory beautiful women get, are all praise for her.
