Ashish (Akshaye Khanna) is an employee of an ad agency, who has an uncanny habit of unnecessarily getting worked up over minor issues. He is in love with Rani (Ayesha Takia).
However, the affair is short-lived as, due to a misunderstanding, his doctor (Boman Irani) diagnoses him with suffering from cancer. And in order notto ruin Rani's life, Ashish tries to evoke hatred in herfor him and does wrong things. He also flirts with a sexy lass (Mallika Sherawat). The ploy works, and Rani decides to marry another young man Rohit (Aftab Shivdasani). But now Rohit realises that he does not have cancer and wants to woo back Rani.
This is a season of comedy films. And generally they have done well at box-office. And this one, coming from Mukta Arts and directed by Satish Kaushik, surely raised some expectations. It starts on a promising note. The initial scenes are very well canned. And some of the are riotously mirthful. But later, the narrative becomes inconsistent and the film begins to drag.
The climax is also half-heartedly shot. Certain well-written scenes do register in the final analysis. And the makers have spent lavishly on its making. But there are lacunae, one too many. The hit number 'Bijuriya bijuriya' should have been used in its complete version than the shorter format.
Production values are top class. Technically, good. Script could have been tighter. Dialogue by Sanjay Chhel are one of the highlights. Music by Himesh Reshammiyais splendid - 'DM vich hulchul kar gayee', 'Dhaaga hai yeh pyaar ka', and of course, 'Bijuriya bijuriya' are the pick of the songs. Choreography is also innovative. Cinematography is outstanding. But editing has loose ends.Performancewise, Akshaye Khanna once again proves his mettle, especially in comedy. He is consistentthroughout. Ayesha Takia disappoints. She must watch her weight and rethink of her make-up. On the other hand, Mallika Sherawat fits into her character and also does the revealing bit uninhibitedly. Suniel Shetty is lovable. Aftab Shivdasani is competent. Rajpal Yadav does well. Boman Irani is brilliant in a cameo. Anupam Kher is wasted. Kishori Shahane-Vij springs a surprise. Directoriaily, Satish Kaushik does a fair job.
At the Box-Office, the film has not opened to the expected response, and it will take a lot of mouth-publicity to help it stay afloat.
