SHUBH MAN GALA SA V ADHAN isa technically sound product from Mahesh Kothare with a consistently woven script by debut-making writer Shekhar Dhawlikar. The subject highlights the traditional urban culture vis-a-vis the life and attitude of the people living in the metropolis.
The screenwriter (who was formerly a playright) has maintained a perfect balance while highlighting the diverse values.
Newcomer Urmila Kanetkar Is a daughter of a well-to-do father. But . despite having lost her mother in her childhood she is doted on by her loving father. She falls in love with her college pal Niranjan, son of a henpecked husband (Vijay Chavan) and a westernlsed wife (Reema Lagu). Now starts the cultural conflict due to diversity of cultures. The girl becomes pregnant and suffers a miscarriage at the time of delivery.
That brings in the change of attitude between the in-laws. Reema is forced to believe in God (Lord Pandurang).
The girl Is saved In the end. The climax holds great appeal for aU kinds of patrons.
First half is racy and light, Makrand steals the scenes. Ashok Saraf (the girl's father) takes the applause for his dialogue. Nirmila Sawant does a good job. Vijay Chavan, Sunil Tawde and Swati are good despite brief roles. Musically, one song rendered by Lata Mangeshkar is the highlight. Direction Is verY good.
