Still remembered for the cabaret dance she did in 'Johny Mera Naam', in which she slowly stripped off each piece of clothing and aroused the demon in Premnath, till only two brief pieces of clothing remained on her, Padma Khanna was a small-timer in Bhojpuri films. After 'Ganga Maiya Tohe Pihyari Chadaibo', came her phase in Hindi films.
Though a talented Kathakali dancer, when Padma was first brought before Vijay Anand he did not think she was good enough. But she proved him wrong and won herself a whole generation salivating fans. She gave good performances too ('Saudagar') but so popular was her cabaret that the image of a cabaret dancer stuck to her forever. A cabaret dancer can survive only as long as her youth lasts. These days, after doing a couple of TV serials, an aging Padma Khanna has disappeared from the public eye.
