Though born in Kabul to a Muslim priest, Kader Khan, actor and writer, grew up in the notorious red-light area of Kamathipura in Bombay, where prostitution, pimping, murders and drugs are still a way of life. He might have grown into a pimp or a pickpocket, even a gangster, but for his parents, who wanted him to study.
He studied and during free hours, found an escape in a nearby graveyard! Life became tougher when his parents separated and his mother married again. Kader Khan grew up to be a lecturer in a polytechnic school but his interest in writing and acting took him to the stage and later, to films.
The kind of bitterness he had seen in life was voiced by Amitabh Bachchan in films like 'Muqadaar Ka Sikandar', 'Laawaris', 'Sharabi' and 'Amar Akbar Anthony', among others, for which he wrote the dialogues.
His writing career began with 'Jawani Deewani', and he started acting with 'Khoon Pasina'. With 'Himmatwala', he also became a popular comedian. Khan has done over 300 films.
