Type of Diabetes
All cases of diabetes are not the same. Sugar can accumulate
in the blood for a gamut of reasons resulting in different
types of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association adopted
the following classification in 1979.
Type-1, insulin-dependent
diabetes mellitus, and
Type-2, non-insulin-dependent
diabetes mellitus.
There are also two other kinds of diabetes, known as gestational
diabetes and secondary diabetes. There is also a special kind
of diabetes in India caused by malnutrition. This is called
malnutrition-related diabetes.
Gestational Diabetes
- This type of diabetes is a temporary form of insulin resistance
that usually occurs when a woman is expecting.
Secondary Diabetes
- This is used to describe a host of other conditions that
